picture frame molding progress

Monday, July 30, 2012

Well folks, the weekend came and went and I'm still not done with the molding in the dining room.

Saturday was suppose to have been spent with a quick trip to the hardware store and then home to get cutting and installing.  Sunday was going to be finish work and painting.  Didn't happen.  We went to FOUR different stores on Saturday (in well above 100 degree temps) before finding enough molding.  Ugh!!!

So Sunday ended up the cut and put up day.  I'm wiped out peeps.  Here's where we stand.

I thought I could get away with using just Liquid Nails.  No bueno.  Today I'm going to have to bust out the nail gun and hit a few spots that popped up.  And, you'll notice there's a large space between the chair railing and the top of the new molding?  I decided I want to add an additional piece of trim just below the chair rail.  Need to go on another trim hunt for that - yippee.

So, new goal.  I'm going to be generous and give myself until the end of the week to get this done.  Hopefully, I'll surprise myself and get done sooner :)

Why oh why do project plans NEVER go as planned?!?!

progress in the dining room

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

I recently showed you guys a photo of the mess that is currently my dining room.  Lots of painting has gone down in there.

Here's what I'm hoping to get started on today.  Adding the picture frame molding to the primed bottom half.  The top has already been painted the lighter color, I'm just too lazy to walk upstairs and get a photo taken ;)

Here are the inspiration pictures I'm looking at.

{via Pinterest via ??}

I just need to decide the thickness of the molding.  Leaning more towards the first picture, but I also like the additional thin piece added along the top of the bottom photo.

Fingers crossed I get this finished by the end of the of the week/weekend.  Having all the furniture pushed together is really starting to irk me.  Every time I walk by it just screams, "Hey, look at me!  You're still not finished in here!"

So, what are your thoughts on molding - do you like it or think it's too fussy?  I'll admit I used to think it was too fancy-schmancy for my liking, but like almost everything I used to not like, I'm in love with it lately.  Kinda like how I used to swear I would never wear flats.  Silly girl ;)

superstar chicken piccata

Friday, July 20, 2012

Ok guys, I have a recipe for chicken piccata that I LOVE and makes me feel like a superstar in the kitchen.  This is a rare feeling for me so I thought I'd share it with you ;)

2 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
2 tablespoons butter, room temp
1 1/2 tablespoons all purpose flour
Additional all purpose flour for coating chicken (I used approx. 1/3 cup)
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice (I use the 100% juice in a bottle)
1/3 cup dry white wine (I used a Chardonnay)
1/2 cup low-salt chicken broth
1/4 cup drained capers
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Salt & pepper
Cooked fettuccine noodles or pasta of choice

Here we go!

In small bowl mix 1 1/2 tablespoons flour with 1 tablespoon butter and set aside.

For the chicken you can prep it a couple of different ways.  1) You can place it between sheets of plastic wrap and pound it to 1/2-1/4 inch thickness, or 2) you can slice it half so you have two thin pieces instead of one thick.  For simplicity, I prefer to just slice mine in half.

Season chicken with salt and pepper.  Place 1/3 cup flour in a large bowl or baking dish and dip the seasoned chicken in the flour. Discard leftover flour.

Heat olive oil in large skillet and add chicken breasts.  Cook until cooked through and nicely browned on both sides.  When done, transfer chicken to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.

In same skillet you cooked the chicken in, add wine, lemon juice and broth.  Bring to a boil - medium/high heat.  Whisk in the butter and flour mixture and continue to boil until sauce starts to thicken.  Stir in capers, parsley, and last tablespoon of butter.

Place pasta in bowl, top with chicken and then add sauce.  Enjoy!

living room paint

Monday, July 16, 2012

Ok, things finally calmed down enough this weekend for me to get a photo taken of the living room with it's new paint.

The painting wheels stated rolling when I was going through my Living Room Pinterest board and realized that almost every photo I have saved included rooms with either white or soft gray walls.  So I asked myself, if that's the look I'm loving so much, why am I trying to make things work with a wall color I'm not hip on?  So, paint I did!

Here's the old paint color.  It doesn't look as yellowy in this pic as it does in person.

Then there was the icy blue paint fail.  Look how dirty the switch plates look - yuck.

And here she is in her new color!  Went with Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter.

The one (and only) thing I miss about the old color is the contrast it had with the photos.  But, I'm so happy with how much brighter the room feels now.

I'm now working on taking it through the entire main level (entry, dining room, kitchen) and up the stairs.  Quite the job to take on half way through a pregnancy.  Getting up and down a ladder is more difficult than I thought.

Here's a little peek into the mess that is my dining room.

Everything has received a new coat of paint in here, including the ceiling.  Now I'm working on getting the bottom half of the wall ready for some molding.

I'm so freaking pooped people!

Anyone else in over their head with projects lately?

out sick

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Well I had planned on getting some photos taken of the new paint in the living room (if you look across the piles of junk on the coffee table you can kind of see it), but a virus had another plan.

Izzy is sick with a major fever and can't seem to keep any fluids or meds down.  There's nothing worse than seeing your kid feel so bad.

where I'm at

Monday, July 9, 2012

Hey guys, I hope you all had an awesome 4th of July and a relaxing weekend!

Not much relaxing for me.  The living room has been painted, pictures to come soon, and the dining room is currently getting hit with the paint brush.  I think it's the realization that I must get as many projects tackled as I can before this baby comes.

Anywho, today you can find me in a couple of different places!

Come stop by The Peak of Tres Chic to see my perfect day - who I'm with, where I'm at, what I'm wearing, and what I'm doing.  I totally want to snap my fingers and be there right now!

Then check out The CSI Project where you can find me posting on my special summer time frozen treat!

See you guys there!

paint fail

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Thank you so much for all of your paint suggestions for the living room!  Seriously, I looked at all of them!

After going through a ridiculous amount of paint samples I thought I had finally settled on a gray that would work.  It wasn't too blue, too green, nor did it lean towards the dreaded pink.  It was actually the same color I painted Izzy's room and had fallen completely in love with in there.  Martha Stewart Nimbus Cloud.

Well, not so in love with it in my living room.  It looks ice blue in here!  Grrr!!!

I thought it wasn't looking so great after I got a large patch done, but I told myself to keep going and that I was getting worked up for nothing.  After the entire wall was done I knew it was finally time to toss in the towl.

Back to the drawing board.

I ended up bring home two actual samples to paint on the wall.  Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter and Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray.  Both have more of a brown undertone.

I think the verdict is Revere Pewter.  This time I'm going to buy only one gallon, instead of the two I bought of the wrong color - double grrr.

Wish me luck!

inside my bag - schue love

Monday, July 2, 2012

Hey guys!  Hope your weekend was not as scorching as ours.  Man, I'm so over this heat already.  I'm thinking about hibernating until Fall.  Anyone else with me?

For this month's Inside My Bag I have the lovely Natasha from Schue Love over!

Natasha and her husband have JUST had their first baby!  An adorable little boy :)  Congrats Natasha!

She is one stylish woman so I was not at all suprised when I saw how amazing little Ethan's nursery turned out.

Let's see what this lovely new momma has inside her bag!

Hi Friends!  I'm Natasha from Schue Love and I'm thrilled to be here today, chatting about all the loot I carry around in my bag!

As I was combing through the contents of my bag, it dawned on me how much my purse {let alone my life!} is about to change as we bring in a new baby boy into the world.  I'm guessing I will be carrying less makeup and chocolate and more diapers and bottles pretty soon.  Nevertheless, this will be a wonderful reminder of how "simple" my life once was!  ;)  So take a peek and enjoy!

This is my LV Neverful bag...it's the large one which seems pretty big now, but my hubby gave it to me as a gift, knowing that it will double as a great diaper & travel bag soon.  It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles...but I know it's a classic that I'll have forever.

And here's all my junk!

Wallet: I got this Coach wallet as a graduation gift many moons ago and it still has held up.  I actually love the chocolate brown leather as it doesn't show any wear and tear.

Makeup: This snake embossed makeup up bag keeps all my makeup in one place.  I generally carry around my Bobbi Brown compact, chapstick, lip gloss, hand-held mirror, hand lotion and the oil pads as I use them on a daily basis.  OH and it's always handy to have a nail file!

Hair: Hairbands, claw clips and brushes keep my hair in check.

Food: A granola bar or chocolate is great for the mid-afternoon munchies.  And of course I try to stay hydrated, especially now that it's gotten hot!

Necessities: Naturally, I can't go anywhere without my keys and phone...would love to upgrade to the iPhone eventually!

Fashion: Last, I keep my sunglasses handy...these are by Tom Ford and I absolutely love them.  During the winter, you can find mittens and a scarf thrown in there as well.

Welp!  That's it!  Hope you enjoyed taking a looksy!  Thanks to Shelley for having me today!

xo natasha

Good Lord that's gonna be one nice diaper bag!!!  Whatever you do Natasha, don't let him get his hands on your lipgloss.  My LV had a very sad run in with Izzy and lipgloss last week.  I've finally forgiven her... sort of.

And those oil pads will need to be making an appearance in my purse asap.  With these temps I'll have to see if I can get them in full sized cloths though ;D

Thanks for stopping by today Natasha, and enjoy your time with your new little boy!
